RESILIENCE consortium partner Albanian University is committed to getting the topic of religion and its meaning on the agenda in Albania. It does this, among others, by organizing activities with other institutions, discussing themes related to religion in the Albanian context.
A scientific activity was recently held in which the role and influence of religious communities and their leaders in the Albanian statehood process was discussed. The activity was organized by the university in cooperation with the Albanian Interreligious council.
Role of Religious Communities and their Leaders
Prof. Dr. Genti Kruja, Secretary General of the Interrelious Council, delivered a lecture titled: “Interreligious Dialogue and the Role of Religious Leaders in the Establishment of the Albanian State”, highlighting the historical, spiritual, and national role of religious community leaders in shaping Albania’s identity and statehood. He presented documents, historical facts, and analyses that showcase the active involvement of religious leaders in major national issues. Prof. Kruja emphasized their enduring role as unifying figures and promoters of inter-religious harmony.
Prof. Dr. Kaliopi Naska (Albanian University) underlined the importance of such academic collaborations and emphasised that addressing this topic brings to attention the valuable contributions of religious communities to the Albanian national heritage and identity. She emphasized the need to recognize, preserve, and promote these values.
European Networks of Religious Studies
This activity represents an important step toward integrating Albanian scientific research into European networks of religious studies, as well as fostering academic dialogue on the role of religion and interreligious harmony in the formation of Albanian national and state identity.
