#Voices: Simon Polinder on Sharing Experiential Knowledge on Religion

05 September 2025

Simon Polinder (Utrecht University) has good experiences using storytelling as a method for sharing experiential knowledge on religion. Besides, he wonders what happens if researchers were invited to a more action oriented approach, sharing what happened to themselves, what added value the whole process of this research had and what kind of knowledge they acquired from it.

We had a talk with Simon Polinder from the University of Utrecht about experiential knowledge, the method of storytelling and how RESILIENCE could facilitate that experiential knowledge on religion is shared.

When a researcher is researching religion, it also affects him or her. But they never write a paper on: How did this research affect my views on Judaism, Islam, Christianity, interreligious dialogue.  What if we could invite them to be more action oriented research, sharing what happened to themselves, what added value the whole process of this research had and what kind of knowledge they acquired from it?
