Religion at the Greenhouse. Exploring the Dynamics and Growth of RESILIENCE

We are pleased to invite you to the event "Religion at the Greenhouse. Exploring the Dynamics and Growth of RESILIENCE", taking place on 11 May 2026 in Bologna.

Introduction

The Event

The event Religion at the Greenhouse. Exploring the Dynamics and Growth of RESILIENCE, which will take place on 11 May 2026 in Bologna, marks an important moment in the development of RESILIENCE. It brings together representatives of European and national institutions, research infrastructures, universities, technological partners and scholarly communities to reflect on the broader role of infrastructures dedicated to the study of religions and to highlight the progress achieved so far.

Programme Dimensions

The programme explores three interrelated dimensions:

  1. Research infrastructures and policy making

How can research infrastructures contribute to informed policy making in areas where religion plays a significant role? What is the responsibility of the research community in ensuring that policy decisions are supported by reliable, accessible and critically assessed knowledge? By fostering dialogue between the European Commission, national ministries and academic institutions, the event addresses the strategic positioning of humanities-based infrastructures within European research and innovation policies.

  1. Serving research, building knowledge

RESILIENCE presents its services and discusses how they can be further developed to respond to emerging scholarly needs. Particular attention is given to digital scholarship, interoperability, transnational access and collaboration with the for-profit sector. The discussion highlights how infrastructures not only support existing research, but also shape new research questions, methods and communities.

  1. Impact, innovation and public engagement

Beyond academic excellence, research infrastructures are increasingly called to demonstrate their societal impact. The event examines the different forms of impact generated by RESILIENCE — scientific, technological, cultural and societal — and addresses the challenge of impact-driven research in the humanities. It also reflects on the role of scholars in making reliable, verified information on religions available to the wider public. In an era of polarization and misinformation, infrastructures such as RESILIENCE contribute to strengthening the public value of scholarship and supporting informed public discourse.

By convening policy makers and researchers at a moment of institutional growth and consolidation, this event seeks to position RESILIENCE as a mature and forward-looking European platform for advancing knowledge of religions in ways that are innovative, interoperable and socially relevant. Investing in infrastructures dedicated to the study of religions ultimately means investing in Europe’s capacity to understand its historical depth, cultural complexity and contemporary transformations.

RESILIENCE is an infrastructure serving the scholarly community. However, it is more: it is an expanding European framework for building trusted knowledge, fostering cooperation across borders and disciplines, and supporting informed decision-making in a rapidly changing world.
